Is The Lenovo Yoga 730 15″ Upgradeable?
The Yoga 730-15IKB has one DIMM socket and the RAM can be upgraded to a maximum of 24GB. The Yoga 730 also has 8GB soldered on memory.
I’ll walk through all the steps you need to take to access and upgrade the RAM on your Yoga 730 laptop. The exact type of memory to buy will also be detailed below.
NOTE: This information applies to the 81CU000RUS and 81CU000SUS models of the Yoga 730 15″. Other models may not have the available DIMM socket. See the table below for details.
- The Lenovo Yoga 730-15IKB has a 15.6″ display and comes with the 8th. Generation Intel Core i5/i7 Processor.
- Many 730’s are equipped with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics.
- RAM is 8GB memory soldered to the system board and one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket.
- These are touchscreen 2-in-1 laptops and weight about 4.17lbs.
Lenovo Yoga 730 RAM Upgrade
Upgrading the RAM on a Yoga 730 15″ is pretty straight forward, you remove the back cover and access to the DIMM socket is available to you.
Note: These steps apply to the 730-15IKB model but will work on similar 730’s as well.

How To Upgrade RAM On Yoga 730:
- Unplug the A/C adapter from laptop.
- Remove the 10 T5 Torx screws holding the back cover in place.
- Use a plastic pry tool to loosen the back cover from it’s clips. Be careful and work all the way around the cover.
- Lift the back cover up and out from the Yoga 730.
- It is recommended and is good practice to unplug the internal battery pack from the system board.
- Remove the cover over the DIMM socket.
- Install your new memory DIMM into the socket.
Note: Insert the notched end of the memory DIMM into the socket. Press the DIMM in firmly and pivot it downward until it snaps into place. Make sure the DIMM is installed firmly in place.

After the upgrade, remember to replace the DIMM cover, re-connect the internal battery pack and finally replace the cover and screws.
Verify the Yoga 730-15IKB recognizes the new memory through the BIOS/UEFI or through Windows.

Note: The Lenovo specs list 16GB as the maximum amount of memory. Many users have installed 24GB total RAM without any issues. That is, they added a 16GB DIMM to the already 8GB of onboard memory.

The cost of RAM DIMMs will vary depending on where you purchase them. I checked the Crucial website and show the current price for Yoga 730 DIMMs as of this writing.

I listed the 8GB DIMMs from Crucial as this is what they specify because Lenovo only recommends 16GB total. If you wish to add a 16GB DIMM, search Crucial for the DDR4 2400MHZ, Dual-Channel capable.
